HOW TO AVOID THE SCAMS

Believe it or not, there are lots of scams out there. Even the chimney repair business has it’s bad apples. How do you know if you have picked a good repair service? Take a look at these factors:

DO THE RESEARCH

Wikimedia-researchDon’t jump on the first person or company who presents themselves. This is a mistake that many people make. Yes, you want to get it done quickly; however, you want to be smart about it.

Ask each candidate for quotes. It’s best to get several quotes. Go over them carefully. Never let someone pressure you into hiring them. If your chimney repair guy is putting pressure on you, it’s best to go with someone else. How the person acts early on, this is a good indication on what type of person he is.
Don’t ignore the warning signs with this.

Look into his referrals. Find out how he has handled other jobs. If there have been complaints, find out why.

THE COVERAGE

When it comes to the insurance, your contractor better have some. He needs to be bonded too. The coverage needs to be at least $300,000. Some professionals recommend to have at least $1 million in coverage.

Another thing to look into is the detailed footage. A genuine contractor should be able to show you proof of what work needs to be done. Some carry cameras. Others take video footage. Bottom line: if you don’t see the proof, don’t do the hiring.
